What I did on my vacation from blogging.
In a quest for more horsepower, a bigger growl and better gas mileage, a couple of weeks ago I installed a new BMP/ProMINI cold air intake in my MINI. As you can see, I added a my own little custom touch. Yes, I've turned into a gear-head. Not really. I approached this from a purely technical vantage point. This modification improved my average gas mileage from 21 MPG to over 30 as of the last fill-up and increased my hp by around 5 percent. So basically, I'm doing my part to save the environment. The next time I pull up along side of a Hummer, I can chuckle and think to myself, "That guy stops for gas four times as often as me..."
Posted by todd at October 09, 2003 04:19 PMBut if you happen to be at the pump, the Hummer can just roll up on top of you and get his gas!
Posted by: timsamoff on October 9, 2003 06:27 PMSorry to go off on a rant here, but since you brought it up, I would just like to point out that there would be no Hummers commercially available and driving on public roads today if they hadn’t been popularized after the first Gulf War by The Man Who Would Be Governator of California. For this reason alone (on behalf of myriad other valid reasons), let’s pause for just a moment to hate Arnold Schwarzenegger, shall we?
[moment of silence to observe said hatred]
For the record, I voted against the recall of Governor Gray Davis, and for Democratic Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante in the event of a recall. But the votes of intelligent, informed, previously registered voters such as myself were cancelled out by those of moviegoers think it’ll be just the most bitchin’ thing ever to have the Terminator be the governor. These sheep were the new voters Arnold targeted on voter-registration drives while other, more serious candidates were debating the issues instead of evading them.
I’m surrounded by idiots out here.
Pray for me.
Posted by: Shepcat on October 10, 2003 05:43 PMWow, Todd… I didn’t know that lovin’ your car could create such political thought. Amazing. :)
Seriously, though, I hate Hummers too… I’d really like to know how many people ever take their $50k+ cars offroading. Ridiculous.
Posted by: timsamoff on October 11, 2003 08:53 AMThanks for backing me up on that one, Tim. For years now, I’ve been trying to figure out the point of the luxury SUV, except to make their drivers feel more rugged and outdoorsy than they could ever hope to be.
I’ve been thinking about waging a campaign much like that of PETA’s anti-fur commandos, going all over Beverly Hills and throwing buckets of mud on all those sparkly clean Cadillac Escalades and Porsche Cayennes these poseurs drive out here.
Posted by: Shepcat on October 13, 2003 04:01 PMThat would be awesome… Next time I’m in CA, I’ll look for the muddy-bourgiese. Now, that’s classy!
