Right now, somewhere in England

MINI update - The final stages of production are being completed on our new car this weekend. Shots from the factory floor are sparse but adrenaline inducing. The car should be complete and ready for quality control checks this week. If everything passes, our new addition will be loaded onto an ocean cargo ship within 7 to 10 days for a 10 day cruise across the pond. My most optimistic projections are that we might be motoring around town in our bouncing baby MINI by the 4th of July. Over the weekend, Dino and I saw several MINIs on the road around town and decided to go visit the dealer for a look at the cars in waiting. A new shipment had just arrived so 13 shiny new Coopers sat awaiting their new owners. Only one was red. Seems that the most popular colors in KC are British Racing Green and Indi Blue (dark blue). I've been trying not to obsess, but it's a lost cause. Now I'm beginning to dream about our new car nightly.

Can anyone give me the name of a good therapist?

My wife's gonna need one! Wink, wink, nudge, nudge, know-what-I-mean...

Looks like it can't wait to see me, huh?

Todd: I ordered a 2003 Saab 9.3 Vector in January. Same deal. I hate to cause significant panic, but my car sank in the “pond” as you call it and I threw the towel in on that car, considering it was all wet and such. Honestly, it was a sign. I might go visit again and buy one, but not anytime soon. My beautiful grey sportscar is at the bottom of the Mediterranean Sea. HMMM. Pray hard that your MINI doesn’t end up there. ~jason

Jason, you’re so full of crap. Your deposit check bounced. Tell the truth man. Ships don’t sink anymore, this is the 21st century! Hehe.

Todd, I’m excited for you man. 1.5 years ago, Holly and I went into Baron to write the $500 check to get on the waiting list for the Mini but got cold feet. My parents had two Minis in the early 70s and raced SCCA with them. I’ve decided to wait for a few years then will probably rebuild an old Cooper S. Fun!!!

Jason - On the MINI owner network bulletin board there is a lot of talk about an ocean freighter that sank earlier this year with over 2,000 European sports cars aboard. Only one MINI was lost and it belonged to a U.S. soldier who was having it shipped home when his tour in Europe ended. Maybe it’s a story of the same ship. I’m not too worried, though. I’d wait for another if I had to.

Dude, my Jetta was just coming up the 5 from Orange County on the back of a truck, and I was a nervous wreck. Of course, there are fewer things in the ocean for a freighter to collide with, so I’m sure your Mini will be just fine.
